WAYS AND MEANS

The merry month of May brings Mothers Day again so I have to take time out to congratulate my Mother, Anita Marcus, who won 1st prize in the Block of the Month challenge earlier this year.  (We won’t mention the fact that she was the only entry.)  However, I now have the honor of living with an award winning quilter.  Since I was a kid, my Mom has made several quilts for me.  Nothing fancy, just simple squares cut from our old clothes and tied with yarn.  When a quilt wore out, a new top would be made and the old quilt covered over and retied.  These were definitely utility quilts but to me they are heirloom quilts.  I still enjoy looking at the bits of fabric and remembering the clothes they came from and when they were worn.  The quilt made with the blocks she won will also be a reminder of us working together.

Take time this month to remember your Mom and the good times you shared.  Stop by the Ways and Means table and pick up something for your Mom or to make something to remember her by.  There are job bags, fat quarter bags and mugs, and there’s always something for free.

Congratulations to Ginie Mains on winning last month’s raffle of the Jodi Barrows Square in a Square items.  Also, special thanks to Sue Haskins for donating the items.

HELPING HANDS

We had another successful morning at Helping Hands.  Twenty-seven women attended.  Twenty-nine quilts went to Caring Connections, and many quilts were made ready to tie.
We would like to thank the family of Betty Kyle for their generosity.
We would also like to thank Mae Hanson and Gertrude Seph for sorting and bagging fabric.
Donations of scissors and safety pins (no thick ones) are needed.  The pins are used on the VA quilts as they must be machine quilted.
Are you ready for an old fashion quilting bee?  JOIN US on the second Tuesday of each month.
