WAYS AND MEANS

Nothing’s as much fun as making money.  Thanks to all those who purchased a raffle ticket for the felt rabbit that was offered last February, we were able to raise $77 for the Guild.  Congratulations to Joan Sento who is now the Loud and Proud owner.  Also, congratulations to Joyce Barksdale, who is the proud owner of the teapot that was offered in March.  Be sure to stop by Ways and Means this month so you won’t miss out on the latest offering.

L & P Info:  On April 18, 1934 the first Laundromat, the Washateria, opened in Ft. Worth, TX.  In honor of that great invention, here’s a tip on washing a quilt.  First, be sure the quilt is sturdy enough for washing.  Fill washer with lukewarm water and add chosen detergent.  Gently put the quilt into the washer and swish it around a bit to make sure it’s saturated.  Agitate for about 2 seconds.  Then shut off the machine.  Leave several hours or overnight.  Switch to the spin cycle and drain out the water.  Let it run through the spin cycle.  This will squeeze out the water with centrifugal force.  DO NOT AGITATE THE QUILT.  With the quilt still in the washer, fill it up again and repeat the process.  Gently lift the quilt out of the washer and spread on a clean sheet in the shade of a spare room where it can lie flat, undisturbed, until it’s dry.

SPECIAL EVENTS

APRIL SQUARE EXCHANGE

As announced at the March meeting, at the April meeting we will have a 6-1/2” “blue” square exchange.  The idea is to cut 6-1/2” squares of blue, or mainly blue, cotton fabric.  They can be all the same, or different.  Bring as many or few squares as you want.  There should be enough traders at their tables before the meeting to net you a nice variety to take home.

JUNE CHALLENGE

Start thinking about this one!  We’re having a “Song Title Challenge”.  Make a quilted piece that represents a song title to you.  (We hope to be able to guess the titles.)  There will be no size limit on this challenge.  Placemat size?  Wallhanging?  Bed quilt?  a song with a color or location in the title?

Have fun with it!  Prizes will be given.
